Each autumn, Fort Lauderdale hosts the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, widely described as the largest in-water boat show in the world. Hundreds of yachts, from center consoles to superyachts, fill marinas across the city, alongside builders, designers and equipment makers from around the globe. As a Fort Lauderdale brokerage, it is the busiest and most exciting week of our year.
Decide what you want from the show
The show is enormous, and trying to see everything is the fastest way to see nothing properly. Before you go, decide whether you are there to buy, to compare builders for a new construction project, or simply to get a feel for what is on the market. Each goal calls for a different plan.
Book viewings in advance
The yachts that attract the most interest book up quickly, and many larger yachts can only be boarded by appointment through a broker. If there are specific boats you want to see, ask us to arrange private viewings before the show opens so you are not left waiting on the dock.
Practical tips
- Wear boat-friendly shoes. You will be asked to remove your shoes on most yachts, so slip-ons save a lot of time.
- Plan by location. The show spreads across several venues connected by water taxis and shuttles. Group your viewings by marina.
- Go early in the day. Mornings are cooler and quieter, which makes for better conversations with crews and builders.
- Take notes and photos. After a dozen yachts the details blur. A quick note on each one helps when you compare later.
Thinking about new construction?
The show is one of the best places to meet shipyards and walk through recent builds in person. If a new build is on your horizon, we can introduce you to builders we work with and help you compare yards, timelines and specifications.
